The Watchman
From the time of creation to 45 A.D., just prior to our Savior coming to this earth, days had been divided into two parts, a twelve hour day, and a night consisting of four watches, combined making up one complete civil day. The days had been 12 hours . .
John 11:9, Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day?
Also according to the Bible, the interval between sunset and sunrise was divided into the four watches.
They are called watchmen because they relieved each other at the end of these periods. There are numerous Biblical references for the duties of watchmen 2 Samuel 18:24-27, 2 Kings 9:17-20, Isaiah 21:5-9. At times, they were placed on watch-towers 2 Kings 17:9, 2 Kings 18:8.
We are always to be on the alert Luke 21:36, 1 Corinthians 16:13, Ephesians 6:18, 1 Peter 5:8
The Four Watches Of The Night
Please notice, following is the language of the Bible. It Never uses pagan calendation / time terminology . .
Instead, in the context of the seventh day Sabbath,
the Bible tells us to "not utter pagan week named days from our lips." Exodus 23:12-13

First Watch is Evening Watch

The Evening Watch is a time of meditation Removing the cares of the day and preparing to focus on Yahuah and His plans for us.

Midnight Watch to Cock Crowing Watch. These two watches consist of the majority of the dark hours.
