Understanding Perigee and Apogee

Perigee is when the moon is closest to the Earth during its monthly orbit. Apogee is when the moon is furthest from Earth. Commonly, the Moon looks about 14% larger and 30% brighter at its perigee compared to its apogee.
Perigee Vs. Apogee

The most spectacular viewing of a Full Moon is when it rises on the eastern horizon at sunset during it's Perigee orbit, especially when the atmospheric conditions are favorable, the moon may appears much larger at the horizon due to atmospheric distortion.

Without any question, the Perigee orbit.

A "Full Moon" takes place half the time in a Perigee orbit, and the other half the time in an Apogee orbit. Each of us must learn these orbits, taking this into consideration when viewing/seeking the full moon when beginning our Biblical months.

Question: What is influencing the visual characteristics of the moon going into the evening of the "Full Moon?"

Answer: Besides the atmospheric conditions, 1) the orbit of the moon (Perigee Vs Apogee orbit) and 2) it's percentage of fullness (Where I am located on earth, my Longitude, in relationship to the actual Longitude the AFM will take place.) It is this relationship between the two points of Longitude that will make it appear more or less full, going into the evening of the AFM.

The shorter the distance between these two points of Longitude, the more full the moon will appear at the horizon also due to atmospheric conditions, and the likelihood of me seeing the moon above the horizon, and the Full Moon taking place prior to the following sunrise is very high.

The greater the distance between these two points of Longitude, the less full the moon will appear at the horizon, it will appear higher off the horizon at sunset so I will need to utilize all my skills to determine exactly when it becomes "Full."

Again, verify their positions to the horizons in the early morning sky. This event is too important to allow to slide by. Our correct Sabbaths, the specific day we gather at the feet of our Creator depend on these sightings, so it is important we learn all the visual characteristics of when this event takes place.
